How To Have Faith When You Feel Trapped

trappedHave you  ever felt trapped?  Trapped in your job?  Trapped financially?  Trapped in a relationship?  Moses and the children of Israel are a great example of someone being trapped.

Exodus 14:1-3 Then the Lord gave these instructions to Moses: 2″Tell the people to march toward Pi-hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. Camp there along the shore, opposite Baal-zephon. 3Then Pharaoh will think, ‘Those Israelites are confused. They are trapped between the wilderness and the sea!’” (NLT)

When Moses led Israel out of Egyptian bondage, God told them to camp in front of the Red Sea with a range of mountains on their left and right and with the Egyptian army coming to destroy them.

As a result,  it looked like they were trapped.  They had been totally boxed in by God.  It was like they were at a dead-end.  Have you have ever felt like you had come to a dead-end in your life?

What do you do when you come to a dead-end  in your life?  You have several options to choose from.  First, you can choose to ESCAPE.  You just get out, or leave.  You can choose to go back to the way things were in your marriage or your job.  The problem is life never goes backwards, it’s always moving forward whether you like it or not.

Second, you can choose DENIAL.  You can say, “I don’t have a problem?”  Or, “It’s not that big of a deal.”  The problem with denial is that you always get stuck where you are and never solve the problem.

Lastly, you can choose to ENDURE.  By faith you can go all the way through the problem.  Not away from it or stuck in it, but through it.  When you do that your faith is going to grow and your life is going to change.

Why did God bring Moses and Israel to this spot?  It’s because he wanted them to look up to him in faith!  Instead of looking at their problems he wanted them to have faith in his plan for their life.

God has an incredible plan for your life.  It’s not some small-minded plan.  It’s a large comprehensive plan that involves every aspect of your life.  It’s tailor made just for you when you feel like you are at a dead-end in your life.

You can choose to ignore it, pretend it doesn’t exist, run away from it or even try to come up with your own plan.  But God has a plan for your life and his plan always ends up working in the end.

Proverbs 19:21 People can make all kinds of plans, but only the Lord’s plan will happen. (NCV)

What did Moses and Israel do as the Egyptians were coming to destroy them?  The Bible says they went through the Red Sea.

Exodus 14:21-22 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea… The waters were divided,  22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. (NIV)

Israel didn’t go around the Read Sea or try to build a bridge over it.  They went through it with a wall of water on they’re right and left.  It doesn’t take any faith to go around the problems you have in life or to come up with your own solution.  But it does take faith to go through a problem.

As the Egyptian army pursued Israel through the Red Sea, the Bible says God caused the wheels of their chariots to fall off and then closed the Red Sea and killed all of them.  Look at how Israel responded.

Exodus 14:31 When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the LORD had unleashed against the Egyptians… They put their faith in the LORD… (NLT)

Have you put your faith in the Lord?  Have you accepted Jesus as your personal savior?  If not, you can right now by opening your heart and believing Jesus died on the cross for your sins.
