Four Truths About Our Future

There is a lot of uncertainty about our future. There always has been and always will be.  Everyday we see on TV how things are constantly changing hour by hour and day by day.

So, how do you remain stable in an unstable world?  The key is to not focus on the things that are constantly changing, but instead, focus on the unchangeable truths that are found in God’s Word – the Bible.  In other words, stability comes from God’s promises.

Psalm 119:133 Keep my steps firm in your promise; that no evil may triumph over me. (NJB)

So, I’d like to share with you four facts found in the Bible about our future.  These are four promises you can count on about your future.

    •    First, God knows everything that will happen in the future.

Nothing ever surprises God.  That’s because God is omniscient. In other words, he knows everything. God already knows everything that’s going to happen in your life and my life.

Psalm 139:1-6 LORD, you have examined me and know all about me. 2  You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know my thoughts before I think them. 3  You know where I go and where I lie down. You know thoroughly everything I do. 4  LORD, even before I say a word, you already know it. 5  You are all around me—in front and in back— and have put your hand on me. 6  Your knowledge is amazing to me; it is more than I can understand. (NCV)

Psalm 139:15-16 Nothing about me is hidden from you!…  16  …Even before I was born, you had written in your book everything I would do. (CEV)

So, I can stay stable in an unstable world because God knows everything that will happen.  Second…

    •    God sees everything I will go through.

Nothing about the future bothers God because He has a different perspective.  God is so high He can see everything in history. He can see the beginning, the middle, and the end all at the same time.

Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before his eyes… (NIV)

So, God knows everything and God sees everything.  Third, I can be stable in an unstable world because…

    •    God’s plan for my future is good

Jeremiah 29:11 “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

Because God is good, all of his plans for us are good.  God doesn’t have any bad plans for you.

Then lastly, I can remain stable in an unstable world because…

    •    God will be with me every step of the way

How do I know that?  Because God has promised he will always be with us and never leave us.

Isaiah 43:2-3 When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown!  When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up…for I am the Lord your God. (LB)

Hebrews 13:5a-6 …God has said, “Never will I leave you, and never will forsake you!” 6  So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper! I will not be afraid!  What can people do to me?’” (NIV)

Did you notice the word “confidence” in verse 6?  Understanding that God knows everything, sees everything, that he has a good plan for me and that he is with me gives me confidence to face whatever might happen in the future.  So, while we might not know what our future holds, we do know who holds our future!  Rest in the Lord!
